A NEW CREATURE

Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature. The old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 2 Corinthians 5:17

Dan and Cindy were a fine young Christian couple who were preparing for ministry on the mission field. Then tragedy struck: Cindy was raped. As hard as she tried to get back to normal life, Cindy couldn't shake the horrible memories and feelings from her experience.

UNDERSTANDING WHO YOU ARE

For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Romans 8:14

I enjoy asking people, "Who are you?" It sounds like a simple question requiring a simple answer, but it really isn't. For example, if someone asked me, "Who are you?" I might answer, "Neil Anderson".

"No, that's your name. Who are you?"

"I'm an American".

"No, that's where you live".

FIVE HINDRANCES

One who looks intently at the perfect law not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man shall be blessed in what he does. James 1:25

While God has given us an infallible guide to life - His Word - the truth he wants us to follow for our freedom can be obscured by our bias and selfish indulgence. In the twentieth-century Western church, I see at least five major hindrances that affect our understanding and application of the Word of God.

THE WAY OF ESCAPE

No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13
