Deep Wounds

We have come to understand that all Christians face the same basic issue: are we really believing the truth about ourselves and about God? Jesus said that it's when we know the truth that it sets us free. So, although it is true for a deeply wounded Christian that their past experience makes no difference to who they are now - they are a child of God pure and accepted by Him - they usually do not know that truth, at least not in a way that they can "connect" with.

What is it that stops us connecting with truth?e have come to understand that all Christians face the same basic issue: are we believing the truth about ourselves and about God. Jesus said it’s when we know the truth that it sets us free. So, although it is true for a deeply wounded Christian that their past experience makes no difference to who they are now – they are a child of God pure and accepted by Him – they usually do not know that truth, at least not in a way that they can ?connect? with.

What is it that stops us connecting with truth?

1. Spiritual conflicts
If we have taken part in spiritually damaging activities in the past, we need to exercise the authority we have in Christ to repent of our involvement and take away the enemy's ability to cloud our thinking. We also need to forgive from the heart those who have hurt us - a hard process for those who have been deeply hurt but one that will liberate them from bondage to those events and people. Taking someone through the Steps To Freedom In Christ process will enable that to happen.

2. Strongholds
Strongholds are ways of thinking that we have grown used to over many years that are not based on truth. It's all very well encouraging people to break the spiritual bondages that caused them to believe a lie in the first place, but if we don't help them identify that lie (it feels true to them!) and show them how to replace it with truth (the Bible calls that "renewing our minds") they will almost certainly stay stuck in the past.

For example, someone who was repeatedly sexually abused as a child will probably have believed the lies that they are powerless (they were then, but now in Christ they certainly are not), and that they are dirty (actually in Christ they could not be cleaner!). They need to be helped to see themselves not as who they were then but as who they are now. We recommend a six-week programme of renouncing lies and announcing truth that we call "Stronghold Busting".

If you would like to learn how to help people resolve spiritual conflicts using the Steps To Freedom In Christ and then how to stand in that freedom by breaking strongholds, our recommendation is that you come on one of our regular Helping Others Find Freedom In Christ conferences. See Events for further information.
